What does Christmas mean to you?

Writer's picture: Gabriella AlstonGabriella Alston

Hi friends it's been awhile! I’ve been pretty distant lately just trying to juggle school exams and just life in general but I was so inspired to write again so here I am haha! To begin I wanted to ask a simple honest question : what does Christmas mean to you? Truly what does it mean to you. Think long and hard. Where are your thoughts on this year, heavenly or carnal? Does Christmas to you mean twinkling lights, beautifully lit trees, Michael buble or Bing Crosby Christmas music blaring in the background, presents under the tree, aesthetic photos, etc. The list could go on and on really! I know for me my mind can wander to the materialistic things and get lost in those worldly ideas of what brings “happiness” to us (because I mean who doesn’t love presents!?!) but in reality they really wont bring what we seek. When the title of this blog popped in my head one evening I didn't really know how to start. It was a really deep question for me to answer the right way. As Christians, we know what Christmas is about ( right?!) it is kind of buried and pressed deep into our heads and we all know what this time of year is. It’s the time of year specifically designated to honor Jesus Christ and His birth in a manger and it is heard and spoken about quite frequently. Now I'm not gonna come on here and push the story down your throat but hey we can all use a reminder right?! I know I do! We all need the reminder the ‘reason of the season’ which is our Lord and Savior! It's truly an amazing nativity story. If we really think about it. God chose two imperfect people to care for His PERFECT Son. Just to ponder and read from scripture ( like isn't that truly incredible that we have scripture and are able to hold it in out hands!) that our Lord took no hesitation for us. To give up His throne in heaven to become carnal flesh like us and to be surrounded by sin. To feel the weight of this world as everyday passed and then to His crucifixion, taking the cross and death with a heavy but willing heart. It truly is incredible. And we are only lightly scraping the surface of this incredible, selfless act. With covid going on it's hard to not loose our focus but lets align ourselves with Christ. Now to close out this short post, remember to keep your heart and mind closer to Christ from now on, to be thankful for the little things in life, and to let us never forget how truly extraordinary this season is because He truly is the reason for the season. Merry Christmas! ✳

( I recommend reading Luke 1-2 ) ☆

Colossians 3:1 KJV

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

John 1:14

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth

2 Corinthians 9:15

Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.
